Online Ad Spend to surpass TV by 2016 says Forbes

According to a new report from market watcher Forrester Research and summarized in a recent Forbes report, 64 cents out of every dollar spent on online advertisement will either be in Mobile Marketing or Social Media.  The total expenditures online by 2016 will be approximately $76.7B, up from $34.5B in 2011. In fact by then, online advertisement will have surpassed TV advertisement expenditure.

From a Domainer’s perspective what does that mean to them?  Number one takeaway is that Search Advertisement is now the largest segment of online advertisement and will continue to grow at a rate of around 12% over the next five years.  However before you get too excited, the Search Marketing rate is half the growth rate of Social Media or one third the growth rate of Mobile Marketing over the same time period.  Most advertisement money that trickles to domain owners comes by way of Search Ads.

  • I like your blog and focus on providing relevant – well presented – information, Vic. Nice job.

There is some new research on mobile marketing that demonstrates that the ROI isn’t there ( http://goo.gl/rrocz ); so even though it make intuitive sense to target folks where they live, i.e., on their mobile platform, execution is clearly poor.

I don’t know anyone who (intentionally) clicks on mobile ads, do you?
